Thank you! Spring sales recap
Our Spring Sales Season was a rousing success! Thanks to you all, not only did we sell more compost than ever before (over 600 yards!), but we sold out sooner than ever before too. We loved hearing about your plans for "flowers or food" (as Josh likes to put it) and sharing the magic of compost right here where the magic happens! Feel free to send over any update photos as your garden progresses, we'd love to keep up with how the season is going!
Our site is empty!!
Stinky bins, maggots, mystery liquids...oh the joys of summer!
Want to prevent these summertime side effects? We recommend you follow the 3 C's: cool, clean, contained.
❄️COOL: Keep your food scraps as cool as possible by either keeping your collection container in a shady spot or by refrigerating/freezing the food scraps until your pick up day.
✨CLEAN: Don’t let liquids, mold, or bugs linger - be sure to rinse and air dry your tote after every pick up/drop off.
🫙CONTAINED: Always keep your collection container lid shut tight to prevent bugs from getting in. We’ve also found the tidiest collection containers are the ones that use a double-bagging method. You can collect your scraps into smaller paper or certified-compostable bags, then seal and deposit those bags into your larger collection container.
Follow this recipe for success and summertime composting can be a little more pleasant for us all 😎
Keep your grass!
Thanks for thinking of us as you mow your lawn, but we actually do not want your grass! The reason behind this is that many lawns are treated with harsh and persistent chemicals that do not break down in the composting process. Even if you can assure us that your lawn isn't treated, we simply do not have the capacity to consider this on a case-by-case basis.
The best thing to do with it is to leave it where it is and let it break down in place.
No grass please!
Meet your drivers, ep 1: Katie!
Hosting a summer event? Let's keep your waste out of the landfill!
We have an Event Service perfect for events of any size or nature. Fill out the below form to get in touch about keeping the scraps from your next party out of the landfill.
We know we sound like a broken record at this point, but we promise that we really are getting closer to the expansion of Scrap It! Curbside with each passing day. And the sooner your friends hop on the waitlist, the sooner they'll be composting after the program does expand. Send Buffalo friends and neighbors the link below and good vibes to those finalizing our contracts.
Municipal programs are no easy lift. Often they are years in the making, years of rallying support, going back and forth with the grant providers, and getting final approvals. So we like to celebrate when they do finally work out, as has been the case with the Village of Orchard Park drop off program! We owe a big thank you to all those in the Village who pushed for the program and put in the leg work to get it done.
Have you been enjoying the new drop off? Help us grow the program! Consider snapping a pic next time you're at the drop to be featured on our social media, or even just share the registration link (below).
Come see where your scraps go and chat with our team about all things local food! Stop by any time between 10am-3pm on Saturday August 15th.
